I chose this book because Nicholas Sparks is one of my favorite authors. Dear John and The Notebook are my favorite book by him. Dear John is about a soldier who falls in love before he is deployed. I chose the dogs tags to represent the military and I adopted the writing in the background from the original book cover because this was a huge part of their relationship in the book. I also chose the moon because it has a special meaning to the couple. I turned down the opacity on the photo of the writing so that it was faded into the background. I applied a filter to the moon photo to make it look a little more interesting.

Know The Signs

I created a poster to increase awareness and promote suicide prevention. According to teensuicideprevention.org, the suicide rate among young people has dramatically increased. Of these suicide victims the majority of them sought help or showed signs before ending their lives. There are many things that may trigger thoughts of suicide and there are many signs a person might show.

When designing my poster I knew I wanted to include some of the signs of a suicidal person. I wrote them down on a piece of notepaper to symbolize a note that a victim may leave behind.  I also wanted to include the phone because it can be a way to seek help. I included the pills and I shaped the cord like a noose to show methods of suicide.  My poster is effective because it gives good imagery and provides adequate information. Including, signs of a suicidal person, what to do if you observe these signs in someone you know and a hotline number to call if necessary.
